SuperCollider 3.3.1 released (Safari 4 compatible)

We are happy to announce the release of SuperCollider 3.3.1, the environment and programming language for real time audio synthesis and algorithmic composition.

The most important update in 3.3.1 is compatibility with Safari 4, so Mac users can now happily update. There are also some GUI improvements, plus other helpful tweaks (full changelog).

SuperCollider 3.3 released

We are pleased to announce that SuperCollider 3.3 is now released.

Visit the SuperCollider downloads page to get binary or source-code downloads for your platform.

There are many changes since 3.2 (see the changelog for full detail) but here are some headlines:

  • GUI system updates: easier syntax, plus a major update of GUI documentation, as well as extra features such as modal sheets, SCLevelIndicator, and menu item manipulation
  • New UGens added:
    • BEQSuite filter UGens (popular set of nice-sounding filters)
    • PartConv (efficient frequency-domain convolution)
    • SendReply (sends arrays from server to the language client)
    • VDiskIn (like DiskIn but with variable rate)
    • LFGauss
  • Buffer recording/playback UGens used to be limited to 16-channel; now they can handle massively multi-channel audio
  • SCImage for manipulating bitmap image objects (mac only)
  • LocalBuf framework allows synths to create/free their own “private” buffers, simplifying buffer management in many situations
  • Various behind-the-scenes efficiency improvements, for a sleeker audio server that can do more on a given machine

(Note: the Windows build of 3.3 is still in alpha stages and so is not yet a “stable” release… watch this space)

Mac UB and source-code bundles are uploaded here:
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=54622

Please report any problems that the more daring of you may come across while testing!

SuperCollider 3.2 release candidate 3 now available

Thanks to the feedback of SC users plus the efforts of lots of SC developers, we can now announce that the third “release candidate” of SuperCollider 3.2 is now available.

Mac bundle and source-code downloads are available at:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=54622

The “release candidate” means that the developers consider it appropriate for general release, so we’re putting it out for general use and testing. If no important problems are revealed then this will be the official 3.2 release, the release on which the forthcoming book will be based.
